Performance Courses w/ Anand Rajaram
My Experience : I taught shadow puppetry over four years in schools all over Ontario with a grant from the Ontario Arts Council. I have also taught drama camps with the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. The bulk of my experience though, comes from directing and from my varied professional performance experiences, having worked with both classical (Shakespeare) and modern texts, and in the worlds of mime, mask, dance, puppetry, sketch, improv, performance art and voice animation. I have been developing an integrated approach to performance which draws influence from many styles and genres.
My Approach : The most important thing I teach is point of view. We all have a point of view and express it often in every decision we make, some very important and some with no great consequence. Anchoring to a point of view is the strongest foundation a perfomer can have in any style of performance. From it can come a deeper commitment to character, a better understanding of the stakes in a scene and the part one plays in affecting and being affected by them, and ultimately, a level of honesty that makes the performance captivating.
